Four Steps to Change Your Life

How often have you thought to yourself about wanting to change your life, but then didn’t take any action? There’s an old saying “If nothing changes, nothing changes” that makes it clear that just thinking about change, and maybe even really desiring change, is not enough. Without taking action toward the desired change, nothing changes and the status quo continues.

So, just how can you really start moving forward in terms of working toward goals such as getting in shape, going back to school, or working on a relationship?

Here are four steps you can start to take now. Not tomorrow. Not someday. Now!

Step 1: Clarify Your Goal
Get a piece of paper and write down what you want. Be as specific as possible. Don’t worry if the goal seems unrealistic or you don’t have any idea how it would be possible to achieve. This is important to remember because fear and self-doubt will flood your mind with all the “reasons” why you can’t succeed.

Your primary responsibility for Step 1 is to be clear about what you really want. The how and when is not for you to concern yourself with at this time.

Step 2: Develop a Plan of Action
Write down what steps you can take now relative to achieving your goal. Try to focus on steps that are manageable. For example, if you really want to go to school to earn a degree, how about checking websites of possible degree programs you could attend. Don’t let the fear bug shut you down by filling your head with defeatist thoughts such as you can’t afford it as they are nothing more than excuses.

Talking to supportive people, praying, and meditating are great tools that will help you identify inspired actions you can take. Remember, many of the steps you will take are actually quite simple in nature.

Stay away from buzz killers. They are usually people you know, and can often be family members and friends, who will tell you why you can’t succeed. Stick with positive people who are manifesting their dreams.

Step 3: Take Action
No matter how big or small a goal is, you will never achieve it if you don’t take action. The Universe doesn’t deliver our goals without our cooperation. We must do our part, which is always doable. It doesn’t matter how daunting a goal might be, there is always an inspired action to take toward achieving it.

When we do our part by taking an inspired action, now matter how small, the Universe always reciprocates by providing opportunities, inspiration, resources, etc. to encourage us to move forward.

Step 4: Keep the Energy Moving
While it can feel exciting to start taking a small step or two toward a goal, it is essential that we keep the energy moving by continuing to take action, especially when fear kicks up because we are now way beyond our comfort zones.

Manifesting your goal really is as simple as taking one step after another. Keep your dream in the forefront of your mind. Believe that you are worthy of all that you desire. When in doubt, take the next inspired action toward your goal. Keep moving forward, even if it is only baby steps.
